Our Featured Coffee - a Costa Rica Micro-Lot
posted by Rob Weislocher on December 23, 2010
This month’s featured coffee is a very special micro-lot bean from Santa Maria de Dota, located in the South Central Region of Costa Rica – in the highest, most remote sub area of the Tarrazu growing region. We started carrying various Costa Rican micro-lot beans about a year ago, and have yet to be disappointed with a single bag. You will find this specific micro-lot coffee to have red berry notes and taste bright, yet well balanced and smooth.
Traditionally, Costa Rican coffees from a certain area are combined together and marketed as origin beans from a certain region. For example, Costa Rica Tarrazu. However, the latest trend from Costa Rica (and many other countries) is to market micro-lot beans. Micro-lot beans come from small low-volume farm-specific coffee producers who process the beans, mill it themselves, and ultimately have total control of the processing from start to finish. This control has led to yields with the best possible flavors, and very specific taste profiles. Micro-lot beans are almost always organic and fair trade, which, of course, we love. Try some of these very special beans today and take advantage our special $2.99 per pound shipping charge. Cheers.
