A little about me...
co-owner, Roaster apprentice
6 1/2 years at Mudhouse
2 1/2 years as Co-Owner
I started working at Mudhouse a long time ago, 2001 to be exact, as a way to get through college. Back in the day, it was a blast learning about all the different coffees and teas available. It was through my training those initial months, that I developed a deep passion for everything coffee. Can I say that I always wanted to grow up to be a coffee professional? No. But it was through learning about the specifics of coffee, and tasting all the world had to offer did my obsession bloom. Today, I try to instill that passion in the new Mudhouse employees. I love to watch them learn the passion of the bean.
Recently, our Master Roaster Kyle has taken me under his wing and has started showing me the intricacies of roasting coffee. It is amazing to me how different coffee beans are based on where they are grown. It blows my mind how so many environmental issues go into producing a great bean. From the altitude the coffee is grown to the specific elements in the soil, so much goes into the final taste of the bean. Truly fascinating.
On a personal note, I recently found my soulmate and we were married this past spring. When it’s right, it’s right, you know. It was a crazy journey, but it is so wonderful to have Kate in my life. In fact we are expecting our first child this November. Am I ready for fatherhood? I don’t know, is anyone really ready for fatherhood?
Long live Mudhouse.
